South-East Food Security Project
Initiated by G Initiative prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, this self-funded social impact effort grew from Agro-SME feed support into emergency nutrition relief for vulnerable communities in Ikeduru L.G.A., especially Akabo and surrounding areas.
Project origin
Before the crisis, the work had already begun.
The South-East Food Security Project was initiated before the COVID-19 outbreak as a practical food-security response. Designed initially as a self-funded social impact program of Gprojects Limited, it focused on strengthening the systems that help food move from source to households.

Agro-SME feed support
Feed support came first because food security begins at source.
The recorded Agro-SME component provided feed support to prevent starvation and protect local food production during a difficult period for communities and food systems. This became the production-side foundation of the South-East Food Security story.
By supporting the source-side of the chain, G Initiative helped strengthen the pathway through which practical nutrition support could later reach families during the COVID-19 crisis.
When the pandemic struck
Vulnerable families faced hunger, uncertainty, and low savings.
When the pandemic struck and uncertainty swept across the nation, many families were left struggling with food insecurity and malnutrition. The burden was especially heavy on families with “No Saving or Low Savings.”
Children and vulnerable households became exposed to hunger, poor access to essential nutrition, and the fear that they had been forgotten during a national crisis.
COVID-19 quick response
Over 30,000 free eggs distributed to vulnerable families.
One of the most impactful interventions under the project was the distribution of over 30,000 free eggs. The response provided essential nutrition to households in Ikeduru L.G.A., with special focus on Akabo and surrounding communities.
